BTU's Per Cord of Wood - What Type Burns the Hottest?

In our business, Buyers house-hunting often ask us about the heat source of a home. If the home has a fireplace, they want to know if gas logs are inserted or wood burning, then continue to ask which wood burns the most efficiently. Here is a helpful list showing the BTUs per Cord comparing different types of wood.

Most of us have heard of BTUs, but just to clarify a British thermal unit (BTU) is a measure of the heat content of fuels or energy sources. It is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of liquid water by 1 degree Fahrenheit at the temperature at which water has its greatest density (approximately 39 degrees Fahrenheit).
